Story

The Mt. Tam hiking boot is ideal for going off-road or straight to the pub. Named after the highest point in Marin County, California where Samuel Hubbard is based, this boot is ready for walking country roads or navigating city sidewalks in style.

We use a lightweight Vibram® Carrarmato lug sole and like all Hubbard shoes, these can be resoled. Our removable triple-density, Poron® memory foam insoles cradle your feet. We hand-craft these boots with a special, oil-tanned leather developed in partnership with our tanner. This very natural-looking leather has a beautiful soft 'hand' and resists water.

These boots are fully leather lined in glove-soft cowhide leather that is hung inside the shoe with soft padding surrounding the foot. Our own reaction when we built the first prototype was that it felt like a cross between a hiking boot and a bedroom slipper. But, don't take our word for it. Let your own feet be the judge.

Soft, comfortable, good support for my ankles, and it feels light. It's a boot you could literally walk in all day. I've been looking at it in the catalog for 2 years. Now I'm sorry I waited so long to order them. Now I've got them, I won't wear anything else.

For a couple of years I have been ogling over Samuel Hubbard shoes and boots as has my boyfriend. They are very attractive to both of us. Even though this was not on sale, I decided to buy these for me when I was placing an order for two pairs of on sale women's shoes (both of which I returned). Unfortunately, my boyfriend has not taken the plunge yet and made a purchase, although I am still trying to convince him.

I love men's boots because they have a wider toe box and width than women's boots. Since I take a size 9 in a women's shoe, I ordered these in a size 7.5 men's. These fit perfectly. They are SUPER COMFORTABLE, HIGH QUALITY, and just overall gorgeous. These are exquisite in every way possible. I have over nine pairs of men's boots and these are by far the best ever. I love these Mt. Tam boots!

I've had my Mt. Tam's for about 3 weeks now. They are incredibly comfortable right out of the box; no break in needed at all. I can stand or walk for hours in complete comfort. Great boots at a very fair price.

These are very comfortable hiking boots. Hard to find boots that are so broken in feeling right from the start.

Product Questions

Re my Mt Tam boots in Saddlebag brown, what is recommended for cleaning and refreshing the exterior? 06.05.18
Hi Pete, you can clean your Mt. Tams with saddle soap, and then polish with a neutral color, or quick shine. Most grocery and drug stores have a shoe care isle where these items can be found. For the soles, check the home cleaning isle for a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser- we find that does a great job cleaning the soles.
Is it water proof and/or insulated? 06.06.18
Hello! Thank you for your question. We hand-craft these boots with a special, oil-tanned leather developed in partnership with our tanner. While not completely waterproof, this very natural-looking leather has a beautiful soft 'hand' and resists water. These boots are fully leather lined in glove-soft cowhide leather that is hung inside the shoe with soft padding surrounding the foot.
My husband wears a 4 or 5 e width will these fit him. 06.15.18
Hello, thank you for your inquiry. Unfortuantely, I do not think these boots will work for your husband. While we do have them available in wide, our wide is an EE, so they would likely pinch the sides of his feet.
