This is my sixth pair of Samuel Hubbard shoes. Clearly, I find them comfortable and well-suited to my activities, which tend to the casual side. I bought this particular shoe for taking long walks in terrain interesting to photograph and for working in the yard. It is good for both activities, except that the feel of the foot surface, because of the outer sole is more rigid and harder than in all the other pairs. I find them a bit tiring on a long day's hike. That said, I love their look on my rather large feet. The shape of the toe box provides ample space in which to wiggle one's toes. I love the black heel counter and the deep orange shoe laces. The provide a distinctive sense of style. I've given them four starts only because of the relative hardness of the footbed.

I bought this shoe as "rainy day" footwear, but now wear it all the time, rain or shine. The wide size was really comfortable and the break in period was minimal. I happen to like the red laces, but a pair of black laces were included as well (I bought the black model of this shoe). All in all, a very contemporary shoe that will be a workhorse year around.

I really like the shoe and the way it's made. The shoe is a little wide, but my orthotics insert will make up for the width.

This is my 8th pair of Samuel Hubbard shoes. Ordered in black, the materials are superb and the fit is excellent. Wearing thicker socks seems to be helpful. This shoe is comfortable and does not require a break in period. It has a very understated and youthful appearance. I may purchase the same style in the brown color which was unavailable in my size previously.

This pair, like the my previous 3, are kind to my feet. They fit well, are soft inside and need no breaking in. I particularly like these shoes now that they're available in black because the red laces work perfectly with the red stitching in my jeans. I have more expensive shoes but the Hubbards are my go-to kicks.

Overall Review
This is my first pair of Samuel Hubbards, and I’m
impressed. The styling is spectacular, and the quality of the materials and construction is superb. I originally ordered the tan color in a 9.5 (my typical size in a dress shoe), but they were too loose overall. Unless I cinched down the laces so tight that they distorted the tongue, the shoes slipped around on my feet. Also, although the tan color is lovely, I was worried that, for the semi-rugged way I intend to use these shoes, they wouldn’t look good for very long. So I ordered a size 9 in the black color. The fit is much better; they don’t slip around, and, because the box toe is so roomy, the shorter length isn’t an issue. One more thing: There is a slight difference in style between the two colors. The tan shoes have a leather flap at the top of the heel—the black ones don’t. Frankly, I think the shoes look better without the flap—but that’s just my opinion. But you should be aware that there is a difference.

This is my second pair of Hubbards. It's a great shoe, but on this second pair I can't figure out how the sizing seems to have changed. I have the original Hubbard Fresh in brown in a size 9 M that I've worn for over a year and really like. So, when they came out with the same shoe in black, I ordered one in the same size. It was way too large. I went through the exchange process until I eventually ended up with a size 8. It's still a hair larger (width) than the first pair, but I dare not go down in size again, I think. Customer service was great throughout the process, readily agreeing to the exchange and providing free shipping each time. I appreciate their assistance and really like the shoe, but just really puzzled about why the fit changed so much.

Thank you for your inquiry. The Hubbard Fresh is a great choice for outdoor activity. The Hubbard Fresh, the Mt. Tam and the Northcoast tend to be the more popular choices for hiking.
