I love all my Samuel Hubbard shoes - 8 different styles, some in more than one color. I wear wide width in men’s (biologically female) and Samuel Hubbards are the most comfortable shoes I have worn. I walk a lot at work and all my SH styles are great for that - though I believe the Fresh is especially well-suited for walking & I’m planning to use it that way. I bought it in both tan and black and I’m very happy with both. I get many compliments. I had some difficulty with the first pair I ordered and received excellent customer service. When spending this much for shoes, it’s good to know that you will be treated well if there are any problems. The Fresh seems to run true to width - or a little wider. It works great for me!

I bought this shoe in black. My wife loved the red shoelaces. Hers was the first of many compliments I have gotten on the shoes. They really did fit like a glove.

This is my second pair of SH shoes. I am on the waitlist for a third pair. Terrific shoes.

I get lots of compliments on my shoes, black with red laces. They are sharp looking! Great for walking and hiking. I do not find them particularly warm in cold weather and was expecting more in this regard. I preferred the winter boot, but they were sold out. Altogether I own seven pairs of Samual Hubbards. This Hubbard Fresh is the least comfortable to wear over long periods. All my other Hubbards are fantastically comfortable always.

Overall Review
Hubbard Fresh shoes are a well thought out design on the "unsneaker" on/off road platform. The natural leather is - well, natural - and the sole grips well and is stable. The workmanship is excellent. The Fresh and the Northcoast seem to be built similarly except for height (shoe vs. low boot), and, compared with other shoes in the SH line, have a heel that is a bit lower inside. This is a minor downside for some. Perhaps a choice of insoles, one with a bit more height in the heel, could be offered. Overall: an excellent light hiker and all around shoe.

I love the style, and had been looking for something similar, so I finally pulled the trigger on these (and a pair of Hubbard Frees, which I'm keeping). I used the Brannock device print-out, and had the right sizing (11.5 wide). I found that my foot had a little too much space in the toe box - had some side to side slipping. But the real issue was that I kept experiencing pinching and rubbing between the bridge and ankle, on both the right and left sides of the tongue. I tried different lacing methods, to no avail. It hurt to wear them, to take a step with them. I've not encountered this with other shoes, and the Hubbard Frees didn't exhibit this). It's a great shoe - well constructed, stylish, just not for my feet. Also note, the brown leather flap (shown in photos by the Achilles) is no longer present - it's the same now as the black shoe (as of February 2019).

Overall Review
This is my sixth pair of Samuel Hubbard shoes. Clearly, I find them comfortable and well-suited to my activities, which tend to the casual side. I bought this particular shoe for taking long walks in terrain interesting to photograph and for working in the yard. It is good for both activities, except that the feel of the foot surface, because of the outer sole is more rigid and harder than in all the other pairs. I find them a bit tiring on a long day's hike. That said, I love their look on my rather large feet. The shape of the toe box provides ample space in which to wiggle one's toes. I love the black heel counter and the deep orange shoe laces. The provide a distinctive sense of style. I've given them four starts only because of the relative hardness of the footbed.

As these built for hiking / backpacking.... if not ..are any of your boots suited for hiking/backpacking 11.24.18
Thank you for your inquiry. The Hubbard Fresh is a great choice for outdoor activity. The Hubbard Fresh, the Mt. Tam and the Northcoast tend to be the more popular choices for hiking.
