Story

What do you get when you cross a gorgeous, soft, pebble-grain leather oxford with a sole and an insole system that’s taken more than a billion steps around the planet? That’s right, the world’s most comfortable dress shoe.

What is pebble grain? As the story goes, an apparently disorganized tanner in Scotland retrieved a piece of leather that was lying forever in a corner on a pebbled floor. The pattern of the pebbles had pressed into the leather and created a distinctive look. Thus was born “Scotch” or “pebble” grain.

Whether you’re walking on the drizzly cliffs of The Quiraing or making it rain in the boardroom, this new Scotch spin on a classic has got you covered.

Love these shoes. They fit right and feel great right out of the box. These are my second pair of Hubbard’s and I couldn’t be happier.

Although the shoe fit like a glove, I had to return them. Very stiff in all respects, especially in relation to the captoe model. Upper edge surrounding the ankle was narrow and hard, digging into achilles and ankle bones. The top edge of the tongue was especially uncomfortable, poking into the front of the ankle with each step. Love your captoe and your approach to shoes, but the highlander was not for me. Will keep SH on my radar.

I'm a pretty standard 10 1/2 D, and most shoes fit fine out of the box. However the Highlander, while initially comfortable, slowly blistered the outside of my heel below the ankle on both feet over the first day of full wear. The collar lacks padding and is stiff, and the heel box is not really lined or cushioned. The sole and toe box were fine. I'll most likely add some adhesive pads to the heel area to see if that addresses the problem.

These shoes were a birthday gift to my husband. They actually came a day after his birthday. He immediately tried them on and has not taken them off except to sleep. This is the truth! He says they are the most comfortable pair of shoes he has ever worn. He has a drop foot and even wears his brace inside the shoe and they are still so comfy.

Not comfortable. Contrary to the catalog description (see most recent issue entitled "Think Cushy"), this shoe does not have a padded tongue and collar. Unfortunately, SH has managed to make the collar distinctly stiff by adding black piping around its perimeter, which makes it stiffer than it need be and with little hope that it will loosen up over time. Lack of padding and stiff piping results in a collar edge that digs into my outside ankle bone. This shoe is a disappointment when compared to the Tipping Point.
