Story

What do you get when you cross a gorgeous, soft, pebble-grain leather derby with a sole and an insole system that’s taken more than a billion steps around the planet? That’s right, the world’s most comfortable dress shoe.

What is pebble grain? As the story goes, an apparently disorganized tanner in Scotland retrieved a piece of leather that was lying forever in a corner on a pebbled floor. The pattern of the pebbles had pressed into the leather and created a distinctive look. Thus was born “Scotch” or “pebble” grain.

Whether you’re walking on the drizzly cliffs of The Quiraing or making it rain in the boardroom, this new Scotch spin on a classic has got you covered.

I have a pair of Rainy Day Reboots medium width. They are plush, they fit, they feel good. The Highlander same size is too narrow and lacks the plush lining. This renders them as ordinary shoes. Well made, but nothing special.

The new Samuel Hubbard Highlander shoes I recently purchased weren’t just fun & comfortable, they were absolutely FANTASTIC, maybe the best made, best fitting, best looking shoes I’ve ever worn!
Having worked in the American footwear industry for over 20 years, I thought I knew the market’s most comfortable shoes...! But my new SAMUEL HUBBARDS are - without question - the most comfortable, nicest looking, best fitting, most attractive shoes that I’ve ever worn or owned!
Really!

I now have five pair of Hubbards, each as comfortable as the next! With a slight case of neuropathy in my feet Hubbards are now my ONLY shoes and I need a pair for every occasion. Bravo Hubbards!

I accidentally ordered a size too wide, BUT I didn't re-order these in my size because of a key feature that resides on other Samuel Hubbards. I own a pair of Tipping Points and a couple pairs of Hubbard Free's, and both of those models have a built-in cushion at the topline of the quarter where the foot actually goes into the shoe. The Highlander does not have this topline cushion and thus felt like it was biting into my skin. Admittedly I've become spoiled by the topline cushion. Other than this lack, these shoes are outstanding.

Overall Review
The leather is remarkable and to find the perfect cow to provide me with this pair is amazing...never brushed up against a barbed wire fence or hit the side of a tree while leisurely grazing is a true feat. The shoe runs slightly large but can easily accommodate a heavier sock (wishing they made a 12 1/2), dressed up or in a casual environment. The shoe structurally is strong, flexible and amazingly light. The heel tapered on a modest angle must have purpose but remains a mystery to me. The lining is of better quality than must uppers on competing brands. I took out of the box and wore for two straight days only to put my shoe trees in each night...so far a great experience probably because my credit card bill has yet to cross my desk.

Broke these out yesterday and wore them all day and today. They are very comfortable. The fit is great. They work great with my Superfeet inserts as well. I highly recommend these shoes. It’s also a bonus that they look great too!

Overall Review
I have six pair of Hubbard shoes. They are very comfortable and stylish. The pig skin finish in rust is unique and can be dressed up or down.

My complaint is that the back of the shoe is designed too high and cuts into my Achilles’ tendon making the shoe uncomfortable to wear for very long. This is the first one of my Hubbard’s so designed. I contacted customer service and they are sending heel pads. Since they had them and this was their first response, this must be a common problem.

Overall Review
I happily own many pairs of Hubbards. I thought these would be exactly like the "Founder" shoes I love, but in a pebble grain instead of smooth leather. Unfortunately they appear to be stubbier (shorter, more rounded toe) and the leather does not seem to be the same quality. The eyelet rings also make them look cheaper, and the trim around the top of the shoe looks like plastic, especially on the brown model that has a contrasting black color. I had to return both colors and ordered two more "Founders" shoes in their place.
