Top Cities to Explore by Foot in 2017

We’re strong believers that one of the best ways to truly experience a new city is by foot. Not only is walking great exercise, but it’s one of the best ways to soak up the little details that make a place unique. Stumble upon hidden treasures, stop to smell the fragrant aromas and discover things you wouldn’t have otherwise.

We partnered up with our travel blogger friends, Steven and Jaz at Travel to Blank, to come up with the best cities to explore by foot in 2017. So read on for some major travel inspiration!  

1. Dubrovnik

For any Game of Throne fans there is no better city to visit this year than Dubrovnik, which you will recognize as King's Landing. Walking through the the city's 16th century walls are like walking into a fairy tale. With the main limestone paved Stradun Street cutting the old town in half, it is easy to reach any attraction and impossible to get lost. Do not miss out on the opportunity to walk atop the old city walls. Head right outside of town up Srd Hill to The Imperial Fort for breathtaking views of the city and Adriatic Sea.

2. Marrakech

Morocco has many beautiful destinations to offer its visitors and Marrakech tops the list with its abundance of hidden beauty. The city is most famous for its hidden riad boutique hotels. A riad is a traditional moroccan style house with an interior courtyard garden with a fountain or pool. Each one is beautifully decorated with endless handmade mosaics. With the cities many areas to explore, it is important to wear some comfortable walking shoes, like the Rust Nubuck Hubbard Free.

 

3. Tokyo

Walking through Tokyo almost feels like you have stepped into the future. Take a stroll among the brightly lit skyscrapers and catch a glimpse of the historic temples nestled in between. This bustling metropolis has a world wind of places to explore for every traveler. Catch a bit of relaxation in the city’s many beautiful classically landscaped gardens. Make sure to head to each neighborhood of the city to enjoy its unique flair and friendly residents.

4. Sydney

To truly experience Sydney, Australia you have to get your walking shoes on to get the complete sights and smells across the city. Sydney boasts several walking tours to enjoy the many faces of this beautiful city. Take a walk from Bondi Beach to Coogee Beach to enjoy the sand between your toes and sea breeze in your hair. Spend the afternoon walking around the bustling Sydney Harbor with some fantastic open air markets. Witness the arts scene with many beautiful works of street art dotting the city. With its mild temperatures, there is never a bad time to visit Sydney.

 

5. Boston

The historic city of Boston is perfect for all walking loving travelers. The city boasts an eclectic mix of modern and old architecture and plenty of green spaces, including the Public Gardens and the Emerald Necklace. There are plenty of sites to see for every type of traveler with Boston's ample supply of museums, galleries and delicious eateries. You can even take a walk through history by following the 2.5 mile long Freedom Trail which winds through the historic part of town. At the end of the trail make sure to climb to the top of the Bunker Hill Monument for fantastic views over the city.
