Exploring Florida: Fort Lauderdale
The greater Fort Lauderdale area has so much to offer to all Florida visitors from its stunning beaches, to museums and spectacular sunset cruises. Regardless of the type of traveler you are or activities you enjoy, Fort Lauderdale will surprise you and make you want to keep coming back to Florida.
If you love getting out and enjoying nature as we do, the following attractions are perfect for you. Fort Lauderdale has a good bus system unlike the rest of Florida but renting a car will save you time and is more comfortable.
Top Attractions in Fort Lauderdale:
Everglades Holiday Park:
Even though the Everglades Holiday Park is not in Fort Lauderdale it is only a 30-minute drive from the Fort Lauderdale Airport. You cannot leave Florida without visiting the Everglades and for the chance to spot an alligator. The 60-minute airboat tour takes you through a small part of the Everglades and if you are lucky enough you will see plenty of alligators. The park is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM.
The Flamingo Gardens:
Flamingos are popular in Florida and the Flamingo Gardens allows you to see these animals up close. The Flamingo Gardens is a botanical garden and an Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary, just 15 minutes away from the Holiday Park. The garden encompasses 60 acres and features over 3,000 species of plants. The Flamingo Gardens is open from daily from 9:30 AM to 5 PM.
Fort Lauderdale Beaches:
Back in the city, you can spend all day enjoying the miles of sandy beaches along Las Olas Boulevard. After enjoying the beach take a walk along the boulevard or grab a snack at any of the small shops. Fort Lauderdale has ample public and street parking spots. Depending on how long you are going to spend at the beach you can choose where to park.
The lovely water taxi tour is the perfect way to explore Fort Lauderdale by sea and land. It is a similar idea to a traditional red bus tour, as you can hop on or off at any of the water taxi stops throughout the day.
Spirit of Lauderdale
If you love sunsets, then the best way to enjoy the sunset in Fort Lauderdale is on a 50-foot long catamaran. The sunset tour lasts about two hours and they have free drinks and snacks for you to enjoy while the sun is setting over the Atlantic Ocean.
